In the world of food experimentation and fusion cuisine, Tandoori Pizza is a delicious combination of Indian flavors with an Italian classic. The bond of smoky tandoori spices and the beloved pizza dough creates a wonderful dish that excites the taste buds. In this blog, we will explore the ways of making Tandoori Pizza and guide you through the process of making this fantastic dish anytime in your kitchen.

To make a Tandoori pizza, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Pizza Dough: You can either make your own or you can buy store-bought dough.

Tandoori Marinade: A blend of yogurt, spices, and lemon juice. You can find the pre-made tandoori paste in stores, or you can make your own using a mixture of yogurt, ginger, garlic, garam masala, tomato, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and a squeeze of lemon.

Toppings: Choose from a variety of vegetables, such as bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. You can also add cooked chicken, paneer (Indian cottage cheese), or tofu as per your choice.

Cheese: Mozzarella cheese works fine with tandoori pizza, but you can also experiment with other types of cheese like feta or goat cheese for an interesting twist.

Fresh Herbs: Coriander and Mint are traditional garnishes for tandoori dishes and can be used to enhance the taste of your pizza.

Preparing the Tandoori Marinade: In a bowl, mix the tandoori spices with yogurt and lemon juice. Add salt to taste. If you’re using store-bought tandoori paste, follow the instructions on the package. Coat the chicken or any other protein you’re using in the marinade and allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes. If you’re opting for a vegetarian pizza, you can marinate the vegetables in the tandoori marinade as well.

Preparing the Pizza Dough: Take a dough kneading plate and add all-purpose flour to it. Then, add salt and baking powder in it and sieve the flour once. Then, make a well in the centre and add 1 teaspoon of oil to it. On the other hand, take a little warm water and mix the yeast in it along with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix well and keep aside for 10-15 minutes. The yeast will rise in the meantime. Once the yeast has risen, add it to the flour knead the dough nicely using some water. Keep this dough aside for 4-6 hours. Then knead the dough once again. Now, the pizza dough is ready.

Assembling the Tandoori Pizza: Preheat your oven to the highest temperature possible (around 475°F/245°C). Roll out the pizza dough as per your desired shape and thickness. Place the dough on a baking sheet or a preheated pizza stone. Spread a generous amount of tandoori marinade over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Add your desired toppings, including the marinated protein and vegetables. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese (or your cheese of choice) evenly over the pizza.

Baking and Serving: Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese has melted and started to bubble. Once the pizza is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and mint. Cut into slices and serve hot.

Tandoori pizza is a delightful fusion of two beloved cuisines, offering a unique blend of flavors and textures. By combining the smoky and aromatic spices of tandoori cuisine with the comfort and versatility of pizza, you’ll create a mouthwatering dish that is sure to impress your friends and family.
